The US sanctions four senior members of the Disciplinary Force and the Revolutionary Guard of Iran

24 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The United States has sanctioned this Monday four senior officials of the Disciplinary Force and the Revolutionary Guard of Iran for their role in the repression of the anti-government protests that broke out in the country after the death of the young Mahsa Amini.

“The Iranian people deserve freedom of expression without the threat of violent retaliation and censorship by those in power,” Brian E. Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said in a statement.

Specifically, those affected by this new round of sanctions are the deputy commander of the so-called ‘Salman Corps’ of the Revolutionary Guard, Parviz Absalan; the deputy inspector of the ground forces of the aforementioned body, Amanolá Goshtasbi, as well as brigadier general Ahmed Khadem Seyedoshohada, also of the Revolutionary Guard.

Likewise, Salman Adinehvand, the current commander of the Tehran Police Relief Unit, “directly responsible for the violent repression of the protests” in the capital in September, has also been sanctioned.

Among the sanctions imposed by Washington against Tehran, there is also the current secretary of the Supreme Cyberspace Council (SCC) of Iran, Seyyed Mohamad Amin Aghamiri, the authority responsible for cyber policy and the blocking of web pages in the country.

In this way, the United States redoubles the pressure on Tehran in response to its spiral of violence against the protesters, going so far as to sentence several to death and execute since last September, when the death of the young Masha Amini, in police custody, unleashed a cascade of protests in the country.
