The US sanctions a network that launders digital assets for the North Korean Government

MADRID Dec. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Tuesday, the United States Government sanctioned two Chinese citizens and a company based in the United Arab Emirates in a plot to launder digital assets worth millions of euros for North Korea.

The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has targeted Lu Huaying and Zhang Jian, North Korean government workers, for cyber attacks and using a front company in the Emirates to launder money and convert cryptocurrencies whose profits returned to Pyongyang. .

Both, OFAC maintains, work under North Korea from the United Arab Emirates in Green Alpine Trading, one of the front companies that these types of agents use to move and disguise illicit funds that are later used to finance the North Korean weapons program. Kim Jon Un.

Washington has stated that as long as North Korea continues to use these types of “complex criminal schemes” to finance its “weapons of mass destruction” program, it will continue to target the networks that facilitate this flow of funds.
