BRUSSELS/ 24 (EUROPA PRESS)
The United States has responded to the European Union on the final text proposal of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, to reactivate the nuclear agreement with Iran, a response that the Iranian authorities are already studying.
“I can confirm that we have received the response from the United States and we have transmitted it to Iran,” EU Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Nabila Massrali confirmed to Europa Press.
The spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, has also announced the conclusion of the “review” of the draft and the sending of a response to the EU, which in turn has sent it to Tehran.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanani, has indicated that they are already examining it, which is why they are postponing any assessment until these works have been completed, according to the official IRNA news agency.
Borrell’s proposal is the latest move to reach a new agreement, after the nuclear pact ended up collapsing after former President Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to remove Washington from the negotiating table in 2018.
Stakeholders have been closely watching the next US move, after the EU announced it had received a “reasonable” response from Iran to its proposal a week ago.
World powers have spent nearly 18 months trying to broker a deal that would restore strict limits on Iran’s nuclear activity in exchange for the United States relaxing some of its sanctions on the Persian republic’s economy, including on its exports of Petroleum.
