The Central Command of the United States (CENTCOM) has reported this Wednesday that a senior al Qaeda official has died after a “unilateral” attack carried out by US forces in northwestern Syria.
“At 11:42 a.m. (local time) on May 3, US Central Command forces carried out a unilateral attack in northwestern Syria against a senior al Qaeda official. We will provide more information when details of the operation are available. available”, he specified in a short statement on his Twitter profile.
The commander of the United States Army Central Command (CENTCOM), General Erik Kurilla, has assured that, with this operation, the organization demonstrates its “firm commitment to the region to fight against the Islamic State and Al Qaeda.”
This comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan revealed that Islamic State leader Abu al-Husein al-Huseini al-Quraishi was “liquidated” in a Turkish operation carried out on Syrian territory on Saturday.
On November 30, the United States announced the death of Abu al-Husein al-Quraishi’s predecessor, Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Quraishi in Syria in an operation by the Free Syrian Army, a pro-Turkish Syrian militia. This first Al Quraishi was the brother of the group’s historic leader, Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, who died in Syria in 2019.
