The United States Administration regretted this Tuesday that the meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, does not send any positive message that the war in Ukraine may be about to end.

“We have not seen anything that they have said or presented that gives us hope that this war will end soon,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at a press conference.

Despite everything, Kirby has insisted that the position defended by the US president, Joe Biden, continues to involve “keeping the lines of communication open with China”, with which the idea of talking with Xi “at the moment appropriate”.

On the other hand, the National Security spokesman has rejected the claims made by Beijing, which has defended being an “impartial” country in the conflict in Ukraine. “I don’t think China can reasonably be seen as impartial: by no means,” Kirby has said.

Xi and Putin held a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday in which the Chinese president promised to give a “new impetus” to relations with Russia, while the Russian president acknowledged feeling a certain “envy” for the economic development of the Asian giant.

Regarding Ukraine, Putin has acknowledged that he does not rule out joining the “Chinese plan” to achieve peace in Eastern Europe, and has indicated that this “could serve as a basis for finding a political solution” to the war.

The Chinese authorities presented a peace proposal for Ukraine weeks ago whose main condition is a ceasefire in the current positions, which has been criticized by Kiev and its allies, as it would mean the presence of Russian troops on sovereign Ukrainian territory.

From the United States they have repeatedly urged the Chinese authorities and President Xi to use their alleged influence on Putin to urge Russia to end the war, and have even asked the Chinese president to contact the Ukrainian president. , Volodymyr Zelensky.
