MADRID 8 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Department of Justice reported this Friday that it has filed federal charges against three people related to an alleged plot orchestrated by Iranian authorities to assassinate the virtual winner of these last elections, Republican magnate Donald Trump.
“There are few actors in the world that represent as serious a threat to the national security of the United States as Iran does,” said US Attorney General Merrick Garland, who detailed that among those detained are two citizens of New York, that they would have been hired by an “Iranian agent.”
This is Farhad Shakeri, whom Iran, according to the accusation, had given orders to assassinate an American citizen of Iranian origin in New York, as well as the next president Donald Trump. While he remains a fugitive, his two cronies, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt, have been arrested.
“The regime tasked him with leading a network of criminal associates to promote Iran’s assassination plots against its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump,” the Justice Department said in a statement.
Shakeri, Rivera and Loadholt have been charged with attempted murder for hire, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering. The sum of these three crimes can carry maximum sentences of up to 40 years in prison.
For his part, Shakeri, who is believed to be in Iran, has been accused of other terrorism crimes and violating sanctions laws, which could result in another prison sentence of up to 60 years.
