The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, has transferred to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dimitro Kuleba, his condolences for the death of fifty Ukrainian prisoners, before reaffirming that Russia will face these crimes.
“The secretary reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to hold Russia accountable for the atrocities committed by its forces against the people of Ukraine,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a press release.
The bombing in question took place in the town of Elenovka, Donetsk region (eastern Ukraine) against a prison for Ukrainian prisoners of war. Both kyiv and Moscow have accused each other of being responsible for this attack that has claimed the lives of more than 50 people.
The Secretary General of the United Nations has offered to investigate the bombing, while the head of the Human Rights Commission of the Ukrainian Parliament, Dimitri Lubinets, has requested in writing the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to join these investigations.
