The US points to two former Salvadoran presidents for “corruption” and Guatemalan officials for “undermining” democracy

The United States Department of State included this Wednesday in a list of “corrupt and undemocratic actors” 41 people accused of corruption in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Two former Salvadoran presidents, Mauricio Funes and Salvador Sánchez Cerén, who are fugitives from justice, stand out on the list.

The list also highlights the presence of a prosecutor and two judges from Guatemala under the accusations of “undermining democracy” and “persecuting” journalists, at a time when the country is immersed in a turbulent electoral process that has been come to see paralyzed by any of these magistrates.
