The United States, Japan and South Korea on Thursday condemned Pyongyang’s launch of two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of ​​Japan, also known as the East Sea, in response to joint military exercises carried out by Seoul. and Washington in the region.

“They are clear violations of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and demonstrate the threat that North Korea’s illegal weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs pose to the region, international peace and security, as well as the regime. global non-proliferation campaign”, they indicated in a joint statement sent by the White House.

They have also claimed that these actions by Pyongyang imply “the need for all countries to implement Council resolutions to prohibit North Korea from acquiring the technologies and materials necessary to carry out” new launches.

Japanese, South Korean and US national security officials Akiba Takeo, Cho Tae Yong and Jake Sullivan met Thursday in Tokyo to strengthen trilateral cooperation and “respond to threats” posed by North Korea.

The South Korean forces have indicated that the two North Korean missile launches have been carried out from the Sunan area, in Pyongyang, and have taken place at around 7:25 p.m. and 7:37 p.m. (local time) in response to joint US and South Korean military exercises, conducted carried out in five stages developed on May 25, June 2, 7, 12 and 15.
