March 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The US government has shown itself “deeply concerned by the events” that have taken place on Sunday in Israel, after the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, dismissed the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for proposing a pause in the processing of judicial reform.
US Homeland Security spokeswoman Adrienne Watson has “strongly urged the Israeli leadership to reach an agreement as soon as possible.”
“Democratic societies are strengthened by checks and balances, and fundamental changes in a democratic system must be pursued with the broadest possible base of popular support,” the spokeswoman said, according to a statement.
Likewise, Watson has reiterated Washington’s “iron” support for Israel’s security and democracy, values that both US President Joe Biden and Netanyahu consider “a hallmark of the relationship” between the two countries.
The dismissal of the Defense Minister has sparked spontaneous demonstrations in the streets of the main Israeli cities, in which more than 600,000 people have gathered. In addition, several ministers have announced tonight their support for the head of government in case he decides to pause the judicial reform.
