The spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Matthew Miller, expressed this Monday his concern regarding the lack of unanimity since 2017 on the part of the UN Security Council regarding North Korea and the “repeated” violation of its resolutions. .
“We are concerned that the Security Council has not spoken with a single voice since 2017 on the repeated violation by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) of UN Security Council resolutions,” he declared during a conference of press.
Likewise, Miller has attributed the intensification of ballistic missile launches, which are a violation of the aforementioned resolutions, to this lack of unity in the organization. Finally, he has urged both Russia and China to use their influence to “encourage” North Korea to stop behaving in this way and “return to the negotiating table.”
In recent months, South Korean authorities have detected an increase in militarization on the border by the North Korean Army, while numerous “strategic” missiles have been launched towards the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan in recent months. Pyongyang has also recently repealed the different cooperation mechanisms with South Korea, a country from which it has removed the label of “partner for reconciliation and reunification” to consider it one of its greatest enemies.
