The US insists on not recognizing Maduro

The United States reaffirmed that it still does not consider the government of Nicolás Maduro “legitimate” and that it only recognizes the 2015 National Assembly as the “only democratically elected institution that remains in Venezuela”, despite the decision to end the presidency. Interim Juan Guaidó, State Department spokesman Ned Price warned on Tuesday.

Price confirmed that the “US position remains the same” regarding the sanctions and restrictions imposed on Maduro, who in an interview declared himself ready to normalize relations with the United States.

“Our approach towards Nicolás Maduro is not changing. He is not the legitimate leader of Venezuela. We recognize the 2015 National Assembly, we will continue to apply our sanctions program against the Maduro regime and we will calibrate those sanctions, as we said before, according to the evolution of the Maduro regime,” Price warned in his usual meeting with the media.
