The United States Minister of Defense, Lloyd Austin, appealed this Tuesday for a diplomatic solution as a way out of the escalation of the conflict in northern Israel, accusing the Hezbollah militia party of “dragging” the Lebanese and Israeli people into a ” regional catastrophe.
“A war like this would be a catastrophe for Lebanon and devastating for innocent Israeli and Lebanese civilians,” Austin warned before meeting this Tuesday in Washington with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, who already held a meeting the day before with the Secretary of American state, Antony Blinken.
Austin has insisted on a diplomatic solution to the “provocations” of a Hezbollah that “backed by Iran”, threatens to “drag the Israeli and Lebanese people into a war”, which will end up engulfing the region, according to Israeli media.
“That is why we are urgently seeking a diplomatic agreement that restores lasting calm on Israel’s northern border and allows civilians to safely return to their homes on both sides of the border,” he explained.
The day before, Gallant already addressed this issue about the situation on the border with Lebanon with Blinken, who in turn urged him that the Government of Israel will prepare and present as soon as possible a realistic plan for the Gaza Strip once ends the war, which has already left more than 37,650 dead in eight months.
