The White House considers that the Israeli Army has not yet started a “major ground operation” in Rafah
May 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The White House National Security spokesman, John Kirby, indicated this Tuesday that the recent Israeli attacks against camps for displaced people in the city of Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, which have left more than 70 dead since Sunday, will not cause changes in its policy because a “major ground operation” against the city has not yet begun.
“As a result of Sunday’s attack, I don’t have any policy changes to speak of. It just happened. The Israelis are going to investigate it. We’re going to be very interested in what they find in that investigation. And we’ll see what happens from there.” Kirby declared during a press conference.
In that sense, he has reiterated that Joe Biden’s Administration still does not see “a large ground operation in Rafá justified”, something that “they have not seen so far”, as reported by the American newspaper ‘The Hill’.
The White House had previously described the images of the Israeli attack as “devastating”, although it continued to justify this type of action to end the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in which in this case Israel claimed the death of two senior officials.
