The US dismisses as "false" the accusations of China about the alleged detection of spy balloons

13 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The White House has warned that any accusation about the alleged deployment of US spy balloons in Chinese airspace is “false”, hours after Beijing reported the detection of more than a dozen of these devices since the beginning of 2022.

“It is China that has a high-altitude surveillance balloon program to gather intelligence information,” replied the spokeswoman for the North American National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, who has denounced the presence of these devices in “more than 40 countries “.

Washington believes that Beijing is only looking for a minimum of “damage control”, after it has not been able to offer “credible explanations” after the detection of a balloon that came to cross all of North America before being shot down over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Government of China has alleged that said balloon was for scientific purposes, a version that the Joe Biden Administration distrusts. In recent days, in addition, two other flying objects have been shot down in the airspace of the United States and Canada.

Within this crossroads of reproaches and accusations, the spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, has confirmed for the first time the alleged ballooning of the United States and has warned that Beijing “reserves the right to take the necessary measures to respond to relevant incidents”.

“It is not uncommon for balloons from the United States to illegally enter the airspace of another country,” he said in an appearance before the media collected by the Bloomberg agency. Wang has urged Washington to “reflect” on its own behavior and change “wrong practices.”
