The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has reported this Wednesday that it identified another Russian military aircraft flying near Alaska on Monday, although, unlike last week when up to six Russian aircraft had to be escorted, it has not supposed on this occasion any threat.
“The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace (…) Russian activities in the Alaskan ADIZ (air defense identification zone) occur frequently and are not considered a threat,” NORAD clarifies in a statement.
“This flight took place while several large-scale military training exercises are underway in and around Alaska,” the text added.
This latest part of NORAD comes just days after the air force was forced last week to escort six Russian planes flying off the coast of Alaska into international airspace.
