The US condemns the attack against a Chinese convoy in Pakistan

The spokesman for the United States Department of State, Matthew Miller, has condemned the attack perpetrated by a Baloch separatist group last Sunday against a convoy of a Chinese company near the Jiná International Airport, located in Karachi, southern Pakistan, which It has resulted in at least three deaths and 17 injuries.

“We condemn the deadly attack near Karachi International Airport and are deeply saddened by reports of loss of life and injuries. We extend our deepest condolences to those affected,” Miller said during a press conference.

Responsibility was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which said it attacked a convoy with high-level Chinese engineers and investors with an improvised explosive device as it left the airport. The explosion caused several victims among the Chinese personnel and the security forces guarding it.

Pakistan has seen an uptick in attacks in recent months, mainly by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – known as the Pakistani Taliban – and Baloch separatist groups such as the BLA. Insecurity has been centered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
