The attorney general of the United States, Merrick Garland, has described this Wednesday as a “war criminal” to the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeni Prigozhin, during a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Mr. Prigozhin, who is leading this, is in my opinion a war criminal, and perhaps it is inappropriate for me to say so, as a judge, before I get all the evidence, but I think we have more than enough evidence at this point to that I feel like this”, the judge testified, in statements collected by the CNBC chain.
“It is unthinkable what they are doing, and everything we can do to stop them, we should do,” Garland added during the hearing.
The Wagner group was included in the list of criminal organizations by the United States in January, the North American country considers among its activities, not only its role on Ukrainian soil, fighting in favor of Russia’s interests, but its presence has also been detected in armed conflicts in various African countries.
Prigozhin responded to this listing, writing on the group’s Telegram account: “I have a question for you. Can you name what crime the Wagner group has committed?”
