Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce Đỗ Thắng Hải has called on the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to promote the approval process for irradiation facilities to facilitate the export of fresh fruits from Vietnam to the US.
He made the request in a meeting with a USDA delegation led by Jennifer Lester Moffitt, Agriculture Under Secretary for Marketing Programs and Regulation, and Alexis Taylor, Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, in Hà Nội on February 27.
Highlighting the US as one of the main partners, Hải said Vietnam hopes both sides will maintain stable development of bilateral economic and trade ties and continue to promote their comprehensive partnership in a substantive manner.
He applauded the recent efforts of both countries to realize the commitments of the action plan towards a harmonious and sustainable balance of trade, intensify the opening of markets, and resolve problems in bilateral economic and trade relations on the basis of objectivity and equality. .

Agreeing with the views of the Vietnamese ministry, USDA officials noted that both sides should continue to promote the debate on opening up the market for the fruits mentioned by the US and creating optimal conditions for some plant-based products and nuts and animal feed can be imported into Vietnam.
They also expressed their hope that partnerships in the field of biofuels and ethanol with Vietnam will be strengthened.
