MADRID 7 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Government reported this Thursday that Israel will open a new crossing “in the coming days” for the entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in Kisufim, a kibbutz located in the southwest near the border with the Palestinian enclave. .
“They have approved additional delivery routes within Gaza, which is critical because the problem has not only been getting humanitarian assistance to the crossings, but also getting it out and delivering it to the people who need it,” said the State Department spokesperson. American, Matthew Miller, at a press conference.
In this sense, he explained that Israel has begun allowing convoys to enter areas of northern Gaza “that have been closed for weeks”, while they are also repairing the coastal road “so that it is operational.”
Miller has also detailed that on Tuesday a total of 229 trucks loaded with aid entered the Palestinian enclave. Washington had demanded that Israel allow at least 350 trucks a day to enter Gaza through the four main crossings.
“They have paved new routes to try to avoid some of the areas where trucks have been looted repeatedly. And we have seen some initial expansion in the Al Mawasi area,” he stressed, adding that it is important that there is an increase in aid that is “sustained” over time.
The Biden Administration sent a letter dated October 13 in which it asked the Government of Israel to do everything possible to improve the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza by threatening the Israeli authorities with suspending the shipment of weapons.
