The trip of a high-level delegation from the United States to Honduras this week has left Washington’s commitment to invest some 43 million dollars in the Central American nation in areas such as education and the fight against corruption, as well as agricultural production.
“The governments of Honduras and the United States agreed on an initial investment of 33 million for better educational quality and flexible alternatives to respond to the needs of young people,” reported Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina.
Both delegations They met around the celebration of the Strategic and Human Rights Dialogues, implemented when Xiomara Castro became president in January 2022.
On Tuesday, President Castro received the US Undersecretary of State for Civil Security, Democracy and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, together with the head of the Southern Command, General Laura Richardson, in her office for 10 hours. who has already visited the country previously; and the accredited ambassador Laura Dogu.
The governments of Honduras and the United States then reaffirmed their commitment to jointly address the root causes of irregular migration, through fighting corruption, strengthening the rule of law, and new investments in education and agriculture.
To the millionaire amount announced, another 10 million dollars are added to strengthen agricultural production in the country.
“The United States continues to be a firm partner of the Honduran people,” Zeya said in a message through a tweet, thanking President Castro for receiving them.
