Zelensky welcomes “fundamental” help to confront Russian advances, especially in the Kharkiv region
May 24. () –
The United States Administration announced this Friday a new military assistance package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, this time valued at around 275 million dollars – just over 250 million euros – and whose main objective is to reinforce the capabilities of the Ukrainian Army in the midst of the Russian invasion.
This “important new” security assistance package seeks to “meet the critical security and defense needs” of Ukraine, as highlighted by the United States Department of Defense in a statement in which it emphasizes that the aid package comes directly from their funds.
Likewise, this is already the fifth round of military assistance for Ukraine since the United States approved last month a large assistance package not only for Ukraine, but also for Israel and Taiwan, valued at $90 billion and whose approval was delayed for Republican reluctance in the House of Representatives.
Among the supplies, the United States has included HIMARS missiles, 155 and 105 millimeter artillery ammunition, anti-armor systems, precision air ammunition, anti-tank mines, tactical vehicles, as well as personal defense equipment and other types of spare parts.
“The United States will continue to work together with some 50 allies and partners to ensure that Ukraine’s brave defenders receive the critical capabilities necessary to fight Russian aggression,” the US Department of Defense has stressed.
For his part, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has expressed his gratitude to the president of the United States, Joe Bide, as well as Congress and the American population, for aid that includes “precision artillery munitions, anti-tank capabilities and other much-needed weapons.”
“This package is critical right now as the enemy intensifies attacks along the front line. Today in Kharkiv I witnessed firsthand the importance of strengthening our warriors to protect our people, our cities and our communities,” Zelenski said on his social networks.
Finally, the Ukrainian president has asserted that “freedom is the value that both nations appreciate” and that for kyiv to be able to defend it, “firm and continuous support from the United States and other allies” is necessary.
