With a second round of talks, the governments of the United States and Spain continued on Wednesday their agreements on cooperation issues that include offering economic opportunities to Central American migrants.
A delegation, chaired by the Spanish Secretary of State for Latin America, Juan Fernández Trigo, was received in Washington to discuss how both our countries can “support the people and governments of Central America, expand economic opportunities and address the root causes of migration,” according to a press release from the US State Department.
The reception was given by the Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols, and follows up on a meeting held in Madrid at the end of May of this year.

Central American workers have seen the development of this type of trilateral relationship as a great opportunity, according to various workers interviewed by the voice of america.
To date, the main sending countries of irregular immigrants to the US are those of the so-called Northern Triangle of Central America -El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala- although in the last year Venezuelans and Cubans have exceeded arrivals in previous stages.
The current Democratic administration faces one of the greatest immigration challenges in recent US history, with the incessant arrival of Central American migrants through the country’s southern border with Mexico, as expressed by the data offered by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office.
