The US and South Korea trained for the first time the deployment of THAAD remote launchers

March 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United States and South Korea have trained for the first time the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), an advanced US missile defense system capable of intercepting missiles originating from North Korea.

The deployment was carried out in the joint military exercises that were carried out in the first half of the year, although they announced it on March 24, as published by the Yonhap agency.

“This exercise enhanced the combat readiness of the THAAD unit and the combined defense posture between the ROK and the US in preparation for the advanced missile threat from North Korea,” the two countries said.

The announcement comes against a backdrop of rising tension on the Korean peninsula and after North Korea has confirmed the launch of a “strategic underwater nuclear weapon.”
