The US and Jordan call to avoid "a further escalation" of tensions by Iran in the Middle East

Both countries demand an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza

April 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The spokesman for the United States Department of State, Matthew Miller, and the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, reiterated this Friday “the urgent need to avoid a further escalation” of tensions by Iran in the East. Next and have called for redoubling “diplomatic efforts to achieve a lasting end to the conflict” in Gaza.

This was discussed during a telephone call in which they also agreed that regional stability involves guaranteeing “lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians,” according to a statement from the State Department.

In this regard, Blinken has highlighted and appreciated Jordan's leadership in delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population in Gaza, which it has facilitated “through joint US-Jordanian airdrops and ground deliveries.”

Likewise, the Secretary of State has encouraged his interlocutor to continue with “ongoing efforts to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for a period of at least six weeks as part of an agreement that would release the hostages.”

Last week, an attack attributed to Israel hit the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, leaving at least fifteen dead, including senior military commanders of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

Tehran has since warned that it reserves the right to respond, as fears of an imminent offensive have grown in recent days.
