( Spanish) – The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, affirmed this Tuesday that in his country Joe Biden is the only president with the authority to make decisions until next January 20, after President Claudia Sheinbaum sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump.
The diplomatic representative called a press conference, after the Mexican president reported that she responded with a letter to Trump’s threats to raise tariffs on products imported from the neighboring country.
“I want to remind Mexico that the reality is that we have only one president at a time, the only president we have who has authority over everything is President Biden,” he said.
Sheinbaum said this Tuesday that in the letter he sent to Trump he stated that “one tariff will be responded to by another” and that this will put “common businesses” at risk.
Salazar reiterated that binational problems must be addressed jointly and that cooperative work is necessary.
