The US accuses Russia of creating and spreading fake videos to interfere in the elections

MADRID 26 Oct. () –

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) of the United States denounced this Friday that Russian agents have generated and disseminated false images as part of a broader campaign to interfere in the US elections on November 5, in relation to a video which allegedly showed a person tearing up ballots in the state of Pennsylvania.

“Russian actors fabricated and amplified a recent video that falsely depicted an individual tearing up election ballots in Pennsylvania, judging by available information and the prior activities of other influential Russian actors, including videos and other disinformation activities. Local election officials have already have discredited the content of the video,” reads a joint statement from the ODNI, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

The US Intelligence services have noted in the same note that this activity is part of “a broader effort by Moscow to raise unfounded questions about the integrity of the US elections and stoke divisions among Americans.”

The ODNI has further warned that, “during the period leading up to Election Day and in the weeks and months following,” Russia is likely to “create and publish additional media content that seeks to undermine confidence in the integrity of the elections and divide Americans.”
