June 21. () –

The United States Armed Forces will baptize a new frigate with the name of the Spanish soldier Bernardo de Gálvez, considered a hero of the War of Independence, the North American Secretary of the Navy, Carlos del Toro, announced this Friday.

During the events organized by the Embassy in Madrid to commemorate the independence of the United States, Del Toro recalled Gálvez’s role in the Battle of Pensacola to affirm that this “decisive victory” was “decisive” to ensure said independence.

The United States Navy will therefore soon have a Constellation-class frigate called ‘USS Galvez’. Ambassadors Julissa Reynoso and Ángeles Moreno Bau will act as “godmothers” of this new ship.

For his part, the Chief of the General Staff of the Spanish Navy, Antonio Piñero, has expressed his “deep gratitude” for this “outstanding recognition”, a “testimony of the excellent relations.”
