The United States welcomes the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

Aug. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has assured this Sunday that he welcomes “with satisfaction” the announcement of the ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad after three days of hostilities.

Biden has detailed that, “during these last 72 hours”, the United States has worked with senior officials from Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Qatar and Jordan, as well as with other countries in the region, with the aim of “fostering a rapid solution to the conflict”.

“I thank (Egyptian) President Abdel Fatta al-Sisi and senior Egyptian officials who have played a central role in this diplomacy, as well as Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and his team for helping to end these hostilities. “, The US president said in a statement published by the White House.

The president of the United States has stressed that his country’s support for Israel is “old and unwavering”, including in matters of self-defense.

In this sense, he has maintained that in the last few days Israel “has defended its people from indiscriminate rocket attacks launched by the Islamic Jihad terrorist group”, which is why the United States “is proud” of its support with the self-defense group ‘Iron Dome’, which has intercepted hundreds of rockets in recent days.

However, Biden has stressed that the reports that relate the number of civilian victims in Gaza “are a tragedy”, for which he has supported “a timely and exhaustive investigation of all reports”.

“We also call on all parties to fully implement the ceasefire, and to ensure that fuel and humanitarian supplies flow into Gaza as the fighting subsides,” he added.

Biden, who toured the Middle East in mid-July and met with representatives of both Israel and the West Bank, has reiterated that he believes that “both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in security and enjoy the same measures of freedom , prosperity and democracy”.

“My administration will remain engaged with Israeli and Palestinian leaders to support that vision and implement the initiatives launched during my visit to improve the quality of life for Palestinians and Israelis alike,” he added.
