This Friday, the United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned four individuals linked to the Islamic State, including members of a human trafficking network linked to this jihadist group, in an investigation in “close coordination” with the Government of Turkey.
“Today’s coordinated action with Turkey demonstrates our continued commitment to defending the homeland against all terrorist threats, including the so-called Islamic State or ISIS,” said Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian E. Nelson.
In a statement, he assured that the US Administration will remain “vigilant” to “identify and dismantle the illicit networks that support the operations” of the terrorist group.
According to information provided by the Treasury, those sanctioned are four men: three nationals of Uzbekistan and one of Georgia. The former are accused of being part of a smuggling network linked to the Islamic State, of providing administrative and logistical support to the terrorist group in Turkey, and of attempting to establish a “military” training camp for the jihadist organization in mid-2023. ; while the Georgian citizen has been a leader of the Islamic State in the Caucasian country.
As a result of the sanctions, their “properties and interests in properties (…) that are subject to US jurisdiction are blocked.” Furthermore, as this organization explains, “they are prohibited from carrying out transactions” with US persons – entities and individuals.
