The United States assures that the sanctions "are having an impact" on the Russian economy

March 30 () –

The representative of the United States Department of State, Vedant Patel, assured this Thursday at a press conference that the sanctions “may not ‘may be having an impact on the Russian economy’, they are having an impact”.

“You have seen multiple public reports that the Russian GDP is declining, you have seen several multinational companies stop doing business in Russia,” Patel explained, adding that they will continue with these sanctions “to hold the Russian Federation accountable.”

This same Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the sanctions received as a result of the military offensive launched against Ukraine “may negatively affect” the evolution of the Russian economy, although he defended that in general terms there is a “positive” trend.

“The return to the path of growth should not relax us,” he said, in a speech in which he also pointed out that the “illegitimate restrictions” imposed in the last year could have negative effects “in the medium term.”
