The United Kingdom will carry out a review of its air security after the recent discovery of Chinese balloons supposedly spies over the American territory, as reported by ‘The Telegraph’.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has announced that the United Kingdom, the United States and other partners will work together to undertake a safety review and analyze and assess the dangers posed by aerostats.
The review will serve, according to what the head of Defense told the aforementioned newspaper, to decide whether or not it is necessary to introduce changes in the surveillance of British airspace.
“The UK and its allies will review what these airspace intrusions mean for our security. This development is yet another sign of how the global threat landscape is changing for the worse,” Wallace said.
Earlier, members of the British Parliament warned that the balloons may have already flown over UK territory, a possibility the Defense Ministry has refused to rule out.
Wallace’s remarks come amid the recent discovery by the United States of Chinese balloons with surveillance potential over its airspace. So far, Washington has shot down a balloon and three other unknown objects, which it has not been able to detail what they are or to which country they belong.
In addition, the United States Intelligence services have linked the alleged downed Chinese spy balloon to a large surveillance program orchestrated by the Chinese Army, which is why it has already warned its allies about Chinese maneuvers.
In addition to the United States, China would have flown surveillance balloons over military assets in countries and areas of emerging strategic interest to the Asian giant, including Japan, India, Vietnam, Taiwan or the Philippines, according to senior US officials told The Washington newspaper.
