17 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Government of the United Kingdom has summoned the Russian ambassador in London to personally express its discomfort at the sentence handed down this Monday against the opposition member Vladimir Kara Murza, who also has British nationality, since he considers that he has “political motivations”.
For London, the sentence handed down this Monday by a Moscow court is “contrary to the obligations subscribed by Russia in terms of Human Rights,” according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In fact, representatives of the British Embassy in Russia attended the process.
The head of United Kingdom diplomacy, James Cleverly, has regretted that the Russian Justice has condemned Karza Murza for referring to the invasion of Ukraine in a “brave” way as “what it is: a flagrant violation of International Law and the UN Charter”.
“Russia’s lack of commitment to protect fundamental Human Rights, including freedom of expression, is alarming,” Cleverly stressed, who has already advanced that from London they will continue to demand the “immediate” release of the dissident and support him so much like your family.
Kara Murza, who was already considered by the Russian authorities to be a foreign agent, has been convicted of treason, spreading false information about the Armed Forces and cooperating with an undesirable organization. The court has also prohibited him from practicing journalism for seven years, although his defense has announced that he will appeal the sentence.
