The United Kingdom sees the conquest of Vuhledar as the starting point of a new Russian advance towards western Ukraine

MADRID 5 Oct. () –

British Military Intelligence considers that the Russian conquest of the Ukrainian town of Vuhledar on October 1 would represent the beginning of a new offensive “in the coming weeks” by Moscow’s forces towards the west of the country.

In its latest assessment of the war in Ukraine, the British Ministry of Defense recalls the strategic importance of a town that is located right at the intersection of two key fronts for the war, such as Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk.

The capture of the city culminated a “renewed Russian offensive” throughout September. At the end of last month, Russian forces already had the city practically surrounded, with only one open space that Ukrainian forces took advantage of to withdraw.

British Military Intelligence recalls that Russia has tried to conquer the city practically from the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, in February 2022, a very difficult task as it is on especially high ground.

Now, London is almost certain that Russia will use the town as the starting point of a new offensive, probably along the towns of Velika Novosilka, in Zaporizhzhia, and Bohoiavlenka, eight kilometers to the north, along the highway TO509, according to the report.
