The United Nations, the European Union and the United States Government have “strongly” condemned the attack against the main facilities of the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) company in the capital, Ankara, which has left a provisional toll of five dead and 22 injured .
The Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, has expressed his “deepest condolences” to the victims and their families, while wishing a speedy and complete recovery to the injured. “The UN stands in solidarity with the people and Government of Türkiye,” he added.
For his part, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, recalled that during the day the headquarters of a Turkish aviation company was attacked “by terrorists, which caused deaths and injuries.” “We strongly condemn terrorism in all its forms. The EU expresses its solidarity with Türkiye at this difficult time,” he said.
The Secretary of the US State Department, Antony Blinken, has indicated through his profile on the social network X that Washington “supports” its ally Turkey and that his thoughts are with the victims and families. Furthermore, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to convey a “clear” message: “NATO is with Turkey.”
“I am deeply concerned by the news about deaths and injuries in Ankara. NATO stands with our ally Turkey. We firmly condemn terrorism in all its forms and follow events closely,” he declared before the call between the two took place.
In this sense, the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has spoken out, who, after being “dismayed by the terrorist attack, has maintained that he will support Turkey “side by side” as a “NATO ally and close friend.”
Other governments in the area have also condemned the attack, such as the Saudi, which has described the attack as “shameful”, or the Bahraini and Palestinian, which have reaffirmed their position “against extremism and terrorism.”
The Turkish authorities have confirmed the “neutralization” of the two alleged perpetrators of the attack – a woman and a man – which began around 3:30 p.m. (local time). Although the attack has not been claimed by any group, the authorities have pointed out that due to the similarity with other armed actions, there are chances that the perpetrators are related to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
