MADRID Dec. 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The commissioner general of the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, reported this Sunday the suspension of the delivery of humanitarian aid through the Kerem Shalom crossing, in the south of the Strip. from Gaza.

Lazzarini explained that “for months” it has no longer been safe to travel through this crossing, considered the “main crossing point for humanitarian aid into Gaza”, and has warned of the presence of “armed gangs”, which in recent weeks They stole “a large convoy of trucks with aid.”

“This difficult decision comes at a time when hunger is rapidly deepening. Providing humanitarian aid must never be dangerous or become a test. In Gaza, the humanitarian operation has become unnecessarily impossible,” lamented the senior official of the UN in your X account.

Lazzarini has listed some of the reasons why it is increasingly difficult to deliver this aid, such as the conflict itself, the obstacles imposed by the Israeli authorities, the political decisions to restrict this support, the lack of security in the routes and attacks on local police.

“The responsibility to protect humanitarian workers and supplies falls on the State of Israel, as the occupying power. They must ensure that aid reaches Gaza safely and must refrain from attacking humanitarian workers,” Lazzarini claimed.

Finally, he has once again asked for a ceasefire that would allow all this humanitarian aid to be delivered in a “safe and uninterrupted” manner.
