The member countries of the UN Security Council have shown this Thursday their “full support” for the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, after Israel declared him ‘persona non grata’ considering that he did not condemn in an “unequivocal” manner. the missile attack launched by Iran.
“The members of the Security Council have reaffirmed their full support for the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, for his important role and for that of the United Nations as a whole. They have underlined the need for all Member States to maintain a productive and with the Secretary General and refrain from any action that undermines his work and that of his office,” declared the President of the Council and representative of Switzerland at the UN, Pascale Baeriswyl, before the media.
Furthermore, they have expressed that the decision not to dialogue with Guterres or with the organization itself is “counterproductive”, especially in the context of the serious escalation of tensions that has occurred in the Middle East during the last year as a result of the attacks of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of October 7 against Israel.
