The United Nations Security Council approved this Monday by 15 votes in favour, including Russia, a resolution to extend the delivery of cross-border aid to Syria for another six months, a measure demanded by the various UN agencies.

Despite the fact that China and Russia have repeatedly expressed their reservations about the measure, they have finally given the ‘green light’ to the initiative, which will allow “providing aid to 4.1 million people in areas not controlled by the Syrian government.”
The UN agencies assured in a joint statement last week that without these cross-border operations “millions of people, especially those who have been displaced on multiple occasions for years,” would not be able to access humanitarian aid.
The United Nations Security Council approved in July extending the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid from Turkey for another six months after Russia — which had voted against it over the weekend — gave the go-ahead to the document.
