The UN remains concerned about the shipment of depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine

28 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary General of the World Organization, Farhan Haq, has acknowledged the concern of the UN after learning that the United Kingdom has begun to send depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine.

“We are concerned about its deployment by any country in the world,” he admitted when asked by journalists, adding that “our concerns remain.”

UK Secretary of State for the Armed Forces James Heappey confirmed that “thousands of rounds of Challenger 2 ammunition had been sent to Ukraine, including armor-piercing depleted uranium rounds.”

It is a decision that has been repeatedly criticized by the UN, and Russia criticized the move as well. In fact, in response, at the end of March, Moscow announced an agreement for the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons, that is, short-range, on the territory of Belarus in response to the British news.
