MADRID Jan. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) regretted this Monday the death due to hypothermia of another baby in the Gaza Strip, bringing the number of dead newborns to eight in recent weeks.

“This is the eighth child death due to the cold in less than three weeks. These deaths could have been avoided if their families had access to the help necessary to protect these children,” OCHA said in a statement.

The baby died during the early hours of the morning while sleeping in a tent for displaced people on Khan Yunis beach, south of the enclave. Seeing their son motionless, they took him to a nearby hospital, although the medical team could do nothing to save his life, as reported by WAFA.

More than 45,850 people have died in Gaza due to the military offensive launched by Israel in response to the attacks of October 7, 2023, according to the new balance published this Monday by the Gaza Ministry of Health, which puts the number of fatalities at 49 and 75 injuries registered in the last 24 hours.
