The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories condemns the “illegal, immoral and irresponsible” bombings
Aug. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The UN humanitarian coordinator in Palestine, Lynn Hastings, called on Saturday to end hostilities and “avoid further deaths and injuries of civilians in Gaza and Israel.”
Hasting recalled in an official statement that the humanitarian situation in Gaza “is already very difficult and can only get worse with this escalation” of violence.
Specifically, he has indicated that the electricity in Gaza is cut off and that the only power plant has no fuel to continue generating electricity.
“The operation of basic facilities such as hospitals, schools, warehouses and shelters for internally displaced persons is essential and is now in danger,” he said.
He has also asked that the movement of humanitarian personnel, the transfer for urgent medical reasons and the transport of basic goods such as food or fuel on the Gaza border not be hindered.
On the other hand, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, has condemned the latest Israeli bombardments on the Gaza Strip, which she considers “illegal, immoral and irresponsible”.
“I condemn Israel’s air strikes in Gaza supposedly to ‘dissuade’ a possible response from Islamic Jihad in revenge for the arrest of its leader” Bassem al Saadi, arrested last week in the West Bank, Albanese noted on his Twitter account.
In addition, Albanese has recalled that “International Law only allows the use of force in self-defense”, for which he considers that Operation Dawn launched by the Israeli Armed Forces “is a flagrant act of aggression”.
