Oct. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, has “implored” all countries, in particular members of the Security Council, to act “with determination to prevent a broader conflict” in the Middle East, where Tensions have increased further in recent days.

Turk has pointed out that this large-scale conflict would have “potentially devastating consequences for civilians”, which is why he sees it as “vital” that all governments “use their voice and influence” to bring the actors directly involved to the table to negotiate.

“We appeal to reason. Peace must prevail,” Turk claimed, in a statement in which he did not refer to any specific country or context and which comes a day after the start of an Israeli ground offensive on Lebanon and a Iranian missile attack on Israeli territory.
