Aug. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

More than 340,000 people have been affected by the unprecedented rainfall that has affected Chad in recent weeks, according to UN data that is already above that of 2021 and that raises fears of what may be to come, since the rainy season does not end until October.

The storm has flooded more than 2,700 hectares of agricultural and livestock land, while hundreds of homes have been destroyed, according to statistics released by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Chad, Anne Kathrin Schaefer, has warned in a statement that the humanitarian situation is already “critical” and may worsen in the coming months. “All humanitarian actors are running out of emergency reserves,” she acknowledged.

The humanitarian plan established for the African country this year is only covered in a third part. The UN and the Chadian government have requested an additional 5.2 million dollars to respond to the basic needs of all those affected by the recent rains.
