The White House considers that “once again” the Russian authorities “are escalating this war”

Nov. 22 () –

The spokesman for the General Secretariat of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, considered this Thursday that the launch of a new medium-range ballistic missile by Russia against Ukrainian territory “is going in the wrong direction”, after more than a thousand days of conflict following the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade its neighboring country at the end of February 2022.

“I think it is another worrying development. This is all going in the wrong direction. What we want is for all parties to take urgent measures to reduce the escalation, obviously, to guarantee, as we have said many times, the protection of civilians, not attack civilian targets or critical civilian infrastructure,” he declared.

When asked about Oreshnik, a new medium-range missile for which Western air defense systems are not prepared, Dujarric stressed that what the UN wants to see “is the end of this conflict, in accordance with the resolutions of the General Assembly, International Law and territorial integrity”.

For her part, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre has considered that “once again” the Russian authorities “are intensifying this war”, which is why they are not going to “be dissuaded” and will continue to send aid to kyiv. The spokesperson has once again denounced “the same irresponsible rhetoric” on the part of Moscow since “the last two years”, when the invasion began.

In this sense, he has referred to Putin’s ratification of a decree with changes in nuclear doctrine that now includes the possibility of using nuclear weapons against a conventional attack. “Russia has been signaling its intent to update its doctrine for several weeks. And seeing no change in Russia’s nuclear posture, we have seen no reason to adjust our own posture,” he explained.

Jean-Pierre has also commented on the deployment of North Korean troops in Russian territory, noting that “it represents a significant escalation of the war,” he concluded.
