The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, expressed his concern about the tension in Bolivia, due to the protests unleashed by the arrest of the governor of Santa Cruz and opposition leader, Luis Fernando Camacho.
In addition, he made “a call for calm and exhorts all political and social actors to exercise maximum restraint,” according to Florencia Soto Niño-Martínez, spokesperson for the secretary general, in a statement.
The secretary also reiterated “the importance of adhering to the rule of law and guaranteeing due process as well as transparency in judicial proceedings.”

Camacho is being investigated for alleged terrorism for his participation in the 2019 political crisis that led to the resignation of then-President Evo Morales after elections considered fraudulent.
