Aug. 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The UN Office for Human Rights has been “alarmed” by the closure ordered by Israel of several Palestinian NGOs defending Human Rights, since it considers that it is an “arbitrary” measure and must be reversed “immediately”.
The Israeli security forces have registered this Thursday the offices of these NGOs and have proceeded to close them under the premise that they collaborate with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, an organization designated as terrorist.
The United Nations delegation in Palestine has stated in a statement that, for the moment, Israel has not presented “credible evidence” to support its suspicions, showing signs of mistrust that “several member states” of the international organization would also share.
“The closures seem totally arbitrary” and represent, according to the UN, “the latest in a series of attacks” against humanitarian and human rights work in the occupied territories, which would also affect the work of the United Nations itself.
Among the NGOs affected by the latest wave of closures are Al Haq, Addameer, the Bisan Center for Research and Development, the Union of Women’s Committees, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, the Foundation of Health and Defense Work Committees. for Children International, according to the list provided by the UN.
