The textile employers believe that the "ridiculous" Sánchez's request to stop wearing a tie harms the sector

July 30 () –

The Textile, Accessories and Leather Trade Business Association (Acotex) has criticized the request of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to stop wearing a tie as a measure to save energy, calling it “ridiculous” and considering that it “harms” the sector of fashion, he stated this Saturday in a statement.

In an appearance this Friday, Sánchez asked the ministers and the rest of public officials to stop wearing a tie when it is not necessary, understanding that it is a gesture that contributes to energy savings. He also sent the request to the leaders of the private sector that they also do without it in the summer if possible.

However, the president of Acotex, Eduardo Zamácola, has affirmed that “it is intolerable” that the Government “instead of supporting such a damaged sector, recommends that citizens not wear ties to save energy”, a measure that considers, also “ridiculous”.

From the association, it is considered that it is a measure that “harms” the industry, since there are “many textile companies” that are dedicated to the manufacture and sale of male accessories.

The textile employers indicate that the fashion industry has been “seriously” affected by the effects caused by the Covid-19 pandemic since 2020 and, more recently, by the rise in the price of electricity, raw materials and transportation, and puts a 57% drop in sales in the last two years.

“Recommendations from a Prime Minister that can cause the closure of businesses and the loss of jobs cannot be accepted,” he concludes.
