The tax on gasoline, tobacco and soft drinks rises 4.3% by 2025

IEPS for gasoline

As of January 1, 2025, marketers must charge the updated fees in the final price at service stations and stores.

Three IEPS fees are charged for each liter of Magna, Premium and diesel gasoline in Mexico: federal, state and CO2 emissions. All are updated by 2025 at 4.3%.

For each liter of Magna gasoline and for the three IEPS installments, the payment will go from 6.88 pesos in 2024, to 7.19 pesos in 2025. That for Premium will go from 6.03 pesos to 6.31 pesos, and for diesel from 7.43 pesos per liter to 7.76 pesos per liter.

The adjustments to the IEPS quotas for gasoline have been made since 2016, in accordance with inflation, while the VAT, which is also charged on gasoline and diesel, remains at 16% of the price of the product, before taxes.

By 2025 the state quota, whose resources go to the federal entities, went from 54.50 cents per liter to 56.97 cents for green gasoline; for red it went from 66.50 cents per liter to 69.52, and for diesel it went from 45.23 cents per liter to 47.28.

How much will the IEPS be for tobacco and soft drinks in 2025?

For soft drink and tobacco consumers, an inflation update also applies to their IEPS.

For tobacco, 0.6445 pesos will be charged for each cigarette in 2025, from a fee of 0.6166 pesos that is included in the final price in 2024. The IEPS payment per pack of 20 pieces will go from 12.33 pesos this year to 12.89 pesos in the next. new 2025, with an increase of 4.3%.

Meanwhile, the IEPS for flavored drinks such as juices and soft drinks per liter will go from 1.5737 pesos to 1.6451 pesos in 2025.
