The Taliban regime of Afghanistan appoints a new Minister of Refugees after the death of the previous one in an attack

MADRID Jan. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan appointed Mawlawi Abdul Kabir this Friday as the new Minister of Refugees and Returnees after the death of his predecessor, Jalil Rahman Haqqani, in an attack in Kabul in mid-December.

This has been confirmed by the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, who has indicated that this appointment is a measure aimed at “improving the governance” of the Afghan fundamentalists, in power after a brilliant return in August 2021.

Abdul Kabir until now served as Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, a position that is currently vacant, according to the Afghan network Tolo News. Previously, he had served as prime minister between May and June 2023 and before that in 2001.

Taliban authorities attributed responsibility for the attack to the “cowardly” Islamic State terrorist group. “Such an attack must not weaken the will of Muslims or allow these conspirators to get their way,” Mujahid stressed then.
