The Taliban have publicly flogged this Thursday a man convicted of having an extramarital affair in the province of Paktika, located in eastern Afghanistan, as confirmed by the Supreme Court.
The court has indicated in a statement published on its account on the social network Twitter that the punishment has been applied to a man in the town of Mata Jan after the man confessed and was convicted of his actions.
He has also stated that several senior officials from the authorities established by the Taliban in August 2021 were present at the event, including the head of the judicial apparatus in the province, as well as other residents who came to witness the flogging.
The Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Hebatullah Ajundzada, approved a new decree on Tuesday stipulating that no one can be punished without a court order.
On Tuesday, Afghan authorities executed a man convicted of murder in Laghman province, east of the capital Kabul, in the second public execution carried out since the group regained power in August 2021 after the then president, Ashraf Ghani, fled the country.
